Alone in the classroom: A case study of two bi-racial males in a predominantly white school
by Whitlow, Alicia S., M.A.E., PACIFIC LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, 2007, 60 pages; 1447868

Abstract:

This inquiry project examined the effects of being educated in a racially homogenous (predominantly white) middle school on two multi-cultural males. The project was a qualitative study which followed two bi-racial males. Data was collected using the methods of classroom observations, interviews with the young men and their teachers, and student work. The findings were inconclusive since the two young men had two very different experiences at the middle school. However, the findings did suggest the important roles played by racial identity and teacher pleasing behaviors.
