How gender roles affect women journalists in Arkansas television evening news
by Cox, Brandy, M.A., UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS, 2007, 118 pages; 1442354

Abstract:

This thesis strategically examined how gender roles affect women in Arkansas television evening news. Data was gathered historically, both on the national and local levels, then followed-up with contemporary perspectives through surveys, ethnographic research, and follow up interviews. The research examined factors that could be influenced by gender roles such as success, appearance, news assignments, family planning, and longevity in the business. The findings of this thesis offer credible insight regarding the feelings and choices that women television evening news journalists make and the way in which they must individually adapt and cope with gender roles in their personal and professional lives.
